Zeds Dead

When: Fri., Dec. 28, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $27.50-$45

Dubstep may be tired and played out, but the party rages on. The long New Year's Eve weekend starts at The Warfield (982 Market St., San Francisco) on Friday, Dec. 28, with Zeds Dead and Adventure Club -- two acts that may ride out the dubstep trend because they tend to avoid gimmicky bass drops. On Zeds Dead's recent remix of The Prodigy's 1996 single "Breathe," the Canadian duo expertly uses quick, bouncy electro beats that still have the fuzzy edge of wobbly bass. Even on its remix of Blue Foundation's "Eyes on Fire," one of the biggest dubstep tracks of 2010, the duo creates a wall of bass that's well balanced with melody, glitch, and stuttering chiptune (those noises that sound like a video game). Zeds Dead also doesn't shy away from pop music, having remixed Dragonette, Bon Iver, and even Aretha Franklin. Fellow Canadian outfit Adventure Club, which has remixed Metric and Temper Trap, brings a similar electro-meets-bass mentality to its set. 9 p.m., $27.50, $45.
