Youssou N'Dour

When: Fri., Nov. 30, 8 p.m. 2007
Price: $25-$75

YoussouN'Dour, one of Africa's greatest singers and songwriters, continues to confound expectations. His latest album, Rokku Mi Rokka(Give and Take), is mainly acoustic, focusing on the folk music from the Pomor and Matam regions of Northern Senegal. There's a Malian influence in the music, particularly the kora and ngoni (a four stringed Malian bass/banjo), which may add an interesting perspective to his back catalogue if the band he brings to town is as groove driven as the players on the album. YoussouN'Dour and his band plays Friday, Nov. 30 at the Masonic Center. 8 p.m., $25-$75. SFJAZZ.org
