A'ight, remember that resolution you made about getting in shape and getting healthier at the beginning of the year? Well, your grace period is over. And there's no better way to start to work off those extra holiday pounds than to get sweaty with the fitness guru himself, Billy Blanks. No, this is not Memorex, nor is this a pitch for a bootleg DVD. This is your chance to train -- in person -- with the tae bo creator in the flesh. According to Billy, "Exercise's greatest two enemies are one's eyes and ears. Once a person can get those in control, they can win." Yes, it can be that simple -- and to make it even easier, you can train with Billy for free. Check out the African-American Health Summit this weekend, which in addition to guest instructor and speaker Blanks has free yoga classes, diabetes screening, massage, and energy work -- so you can get your health on. And if you don't have health insurance, there's some info for you there, too.

Righteously so, this event is for anyone and everyone. If you want to get down with Billy, put on your Nikes and just do it. Tae bo classes are Saturday 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the Oakland Convention Center, 10th and Broadway. Rain, Go Away

Is it feather weather?

Pray for sunshine this Saturday if you enjoy pedaling along the bayfront while birdwatching. Rain cancels the SF Bay Trail Bicycle & Birding Trip, an all-day extravaganza of sprockets and tweets that begins at 8:30 a.m. at Berkeley's Aquatic Park with some early-morning birding, then proceeds north along the Bay Trail to Richmond, with birdwatching stops at East Bay Shoreline Park, Richmond Bay Marina, and Miller-Knox Regional Shoreline. The ornithologist cyclers then have the option of following the outing leaders to the Richmond BART station, or biking back on their own. Be sure to bring binoculars, sunscreen (that's positive thinking), a spot of lunch, and various liquids. Bicycle helmet required. Call Kathy Jarrett at 510-547-1233 to sign up.
