Drama, Romance
Three drifting characters – a newly released ex-con (William Hurt), a disconnected teenager (Kristen Stewart), and a would-be eccentric mixed-up youth (Eddie Redmayne) – interact ostentatiously on the back roads of post-Katrina Louisiana. Director Udayan Prasad’s self-consciously quiet, ultra-indie drama (screenplay by Erin Dignam from a story by Pete Hamill) has a little trouble getting started, but once the ex-con’s flashbacks with his lost girlfriend (Maria Bello) kick in, we don’t mind sticking around for awhile. Hurt and Bello carry the load ably. A sweet movie about troubled people (97 min.).
