In 2012, at just 17 years old, Orlando, Fla., native Marcel Everett released an eponymous album of spacious, minimalist electronica under the moniker XXYYXX. On “Good Enough,” he creatively sampled TLC’s “No Scrubs,” turning the late-’90s R&B hit it into a surprisingly moody, contemplative track. The following year, he was playing big festivals, sharing the stage with the likes of Flying Lotus and Knife Party. His sound is comparable to The Weeknd’s, with R&B-influenced, synth-driven tunes that are at times wistful and uplifting. Although XXYYXX hasn’t released another album since 2012 — only remixes and singles — that hasn’t stopped him from performing at massive festivals such as BUKU Music & Art Project in New Orleans and Coachella. On Nov. 30, get the feels with XXYYXX when he headlines the UC Theatre.
