Parts of X-Men Origins: Wolverine don’t suck nearly as bad as X-Men: The Last Stand, which is a mixed compliment. Then again, there are parts that are much worse. Most startling is the irony that, despite the movie’s title, Wolverine (again played by Hugh Jackman) is shortchanged in terms of a proper origin. For example, we already know pretty much everything we hear about the Weapon X program, except how other mutants were used to create it. We do find out Logan has a brother, Sabertooth (Live Schreiber) — whose apparently retarded alter-ego we met in the first X-Men movie — but the rushed, poorly developed script never explains why they hate each other so much. Maybe you’ll care, but probably not (107 min.).
