Workshop: Using Natural Dyes in Your Kitchen

Come make some incredibly tasty and colorful foods using plant spices from Oaktown Spice Shop that impart color. This hands-on class is taught by Deepa Natarajan, coordinator of public programs at UC Botanical Garden at Berkeley and an avid natural dyer and cook. We'll work with annatto, saffron, turmeric and beet powder as we explore the world of spices for color. Fun ideas for children and adults alike including rice, colorful cupcakes and refreshing and healthful drinks. Each participant will get to taste the recipes, receive handouts with recipes and tips and take home a jar of DIY annatto oil.
