Re: “Great Expectations

Great reminder that taking on and surmounting challenges is the way to self-esteem for kids. The author of this piece deserves a curtain call!

Re: “Back on Track

Great piece . . . I think the Express needs to run more articles about marathoning!

Re: “Slap Hitter: Almost Perfect Not Good Enough for A's

Slap Hitter--apparently Matt Holiday read your last entry and was so ashamed of himself that he decided to hit again--or maybe he just realized that if he wants $20 million/per on his next contract, it's time to pad the stats. Anyway, the big comeback was awesome, as was the spanking of the Twins today. We suck, sure, but at least we hit like a major league team for a series. Another of those small, hollow triumphs to savor, but savor it I will . . . because I predict we'll score a total of five runs in the next three games.

Re: “Slap Hitter: Take a shot at the Raiders--for Free!

Why all this football nonsense when it's only two months until pitchers and catchers report? So what if Furcal used the A's as negotiation fodder, if most of us can't name (or at least can't spell the name) of even one of their starting pitchers (Duchsherer? Duchscherer?), if Matt Holliday is sure to be gone by July 31? Springtime in Oakland is just around the corner . . .

Re: “Slap Hitter: A's win! Let's get donuts!

What do you have against fried ravioli, Slap Hitter? Sources tell me that you were so intrigued with the concept when in St. Louis that you had to be dragged out of Little Italy.

I have to admit, I've never heard of Dick's donuts.

Re: “Winter (Fast) Break

Another way to experience college hoops without the college students (at least the drunken frat boys) ... a women's game. Also a way to see a few in-conference Cal wins ...

Re: “Holiday Sports Wish List

Kibby, my man, cheer up--the A's are going to last a long, long time, no need to fret--you'll just need to head to Alameda County's deep south to see them, starting in 2012-13. DS
