A warm, cuddly documentary about a warm, cuddly man, TV’s iconic kid-show host Mister Rogers, who never met a sock puppet he didn’t love. Filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom) digs down into the life of Fred Rogers and discovers a calm, soft-spoken, ordained Presbyterian minister on a two-part mission: to demonstrate that each and every person is unique and special, and to provide children with a positive alternative to what he saw as demeaning Saturday-morning entertainment. On the way, we hear from the man himself in video clips, as well as such admirers as classical musician Yo-Yo Ma. We come away feeling that Rogers’ screen persona and his real-life personality were one and the same. (94 min., 2018, rated PG-13)
