“Name three women visual artists.” That’s what this vastly informative, clearly inspirational documentary study of American feminist art asks us to do. By the time Lynn Hershman Leeson’s “secret history” is finished you’ll undoubtedly be able to. The doc could use a touch of humor, but then it’s not meant to be funny — there’s nothing frivolous about the subjects’ charges that the world of fine art has been and continues to be dominated by men. Unsurprisingly, the 1970s were ground zero. Has meaningful things to say about race, class, power, sexuality, and economics as well. Written, produced, directed, edited, and narrated by Leeson.
