Adventure, Animated
Walt Disney Animation Studios' sequel to its 1977 The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh strives for an old-fashioned feel, and succeeds, in its gentle adaptation of A.A. Milne's classic children's stories — the film melds three separate Pooh tales — and in its hand-drawn technique. The voices of Jim Cummings (Pooh and Tigger) and John Cleese (narrator) are major pluses, as is the general whimsicality. The critters of Hundred Acre Wood set out in search of the missing Christopher Robin (voice of Jack Boulter), but the main thing on Pooh's mind is "hunny." Pre-school kids and sentimental grownups will be suitably enthralled. Tha's Zooey Deschanel singing the theme song, which she wrote. Directed by Stephen J. Anderson and Don Hall from a screenplay by no fewer than nine adapting writers. (69 min.) Also on the bill: The Ballad of Nessie, a charming cartoon about the lovable Loch Ness monster, starring the voice of Billy Connolly and directed by Stevie Wermers.(7 min.)
