Wine and Poetry

When: Sun., Jan. 6, 2 p.m. 2008
Price: $5

The Garré family was making wine in Italy before relocating to Livermore's wine country, where itsGarré Winery and Cafe now specializes in "Bordeaux blends," a particular combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petite Verdot that is extremely hard to find outside of France's Bordeaux region. On Sunday, Jan. 6, the winery caters a reading at the Martinelli Conference and Event Center (3585 Greenville Rd., Livermore) by internationally renowned local poet Kay Ryan. The Guggenheim fellow and Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize winner -- who calls writing a "self-imposed emergency"-- will read from her sixth book, The Niagara River. 2 p.m., $5.
