Apparently, some people in West Oakland are so preoccupied with gentrification that even dog-walking is now evidence of a sinister plot to drive out the poor. Our local correspondent was recently poodle-perambulating down Mandela Parkway when she spied a notice by City Councilwoman Nancy Nadel, urging citizens to keep their dogs on leashes while enjoying the city's lovely parks. Underneath, someone posted a slightly different notice: "Establishing dog off leash parks is a part of the gentrificantion [sic] of Oakland. There is already too much overrunning of dogs. These dogs have come with the gentrification. They are not just innocent pets. These dogs have been know [sic] to attack 'black men.'" Does the entire animal kingdom have it in for West Oakland?
