White Elephant Sale

Oft-touted as the largest rummage sale in Northern California, the Oakland Museum's annual White Elephant Sale offers every kind of knick-knack, curio, sporting good, household appliance, wearable boutique item, piece of bric-a-brac, funky fabric, vintage board game, or thingy with a plug that can fit in a 96,000 square-foot warehouse. Sales of years past have featured everything from cottage cheese cookbooks to -- by one shopper's account -- an antique gynecologist's table with metal stirrups, all on-the-cheap. This year's event .at333 Lancaster St. runs Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2. 10 a.m.-4 p.m.,free.
