You don't have to be fan of the Germs or the '70s-'80s LA punk scene to admire what writer-director Rodger Grossman and actor Shane West do with the life and times of Germs front man Darby Crash, a punk-rock pioneer whose misfortune it was to OD the night before John Lennon died. Oh well. Grossman and cast capture a ton of character detail in their tour of the Whisky, the Orpheum, the Starwood, and other places from which the unruly Germs were banned. Best of all, the filmmakers don’t over-contextualize. With Bijou Phillips, Rick Gonzalez, and Noah Segan (82 min.).
