Re: “The Struggle for Berkeley's Soul

"Brown countered that Direen created the gift shop not to discourage community meetings but to boost the church's failing finances."

Perhaps Mr. Brown and Fr. Direen could inform readers, the community, and parishioners what the net revenue is from the Gift Shop? Has it really been worth removing the only meeting room worthy of the name at the parish?

Why haven't revenues from the Gift Shop been routinely published in the parish bulletin, just as the weekly plate collection is?

Re: “The Struggle for Berkeley's Soul

"Direen is in charge and has the authority to ask Crespin to move; he gave him time to do it and offered assistance finding new living quarters, Brown said. But the priest stayed and therefore was finally told to leave the parish by the end of June."

This is maliciously deceptive and manipulative language by Fr. Direen and / or Mike Brown. Fr. Direen, when he first became pastor, INVITED Fr. Crespin to stay in the rectory. It was not until 2 June 2011 that he "asked" him to move. "The priest stayed", and "finally" covers a period of SIX DAYS, from June 2nd to June 8th, when Fr. Crespin was already in the process of finding a new residence. We await a correction and apology by Fr. Direen and Mike Brown for these false and shameful innuendos which distort the actual events beyond recognition.

This type of behavior: deception, refusing to communicate, manipulative innuendos, one-fourth "truths" and hard hearted impersonal cruelty, all parading as "conservative Catholicism" it the real problem that the parish has with Fr. Direen.
