Price: $10

Hailing from Berkeley, Waterstrider has the rare quality of being instantly favorable to the ears, and a  curious knack for sounding exceptionally familiar and yet like no one else in particular. In passing, I've made comparisons to Jeff Buckley and Paul Simon, but have heard others mention Yeasayer, Foals, and numerous other groups, many of which I doubt the band members would list as influences. That's because they have a sound that many bands strive towards. Singer Nathan Salman's spry falsetto is pure and innocent, but well controlled; guitarist Alex Seigel plays impeccably, though he's only one of five other members that give buoyancy to Salman's already swelling songs. Their tunes are carefree and danceable, and appropriate to St. Patrick's Day, which marks  their first major headlining show in San Francisco. Equally promising little-known indie rockers Dreams and The Buttercream Gang will support: At Bottom of the Hill (1233 17th St., San Francisco) on Saturday, Mar. 17 at 10 p.m., $10,
