Spirited African traditional music and dance performances alternate with tragic scenes of young people recalling the deaths of family members at the hands of rebels, in this energetic documentary account of the children of Patongo refugee village in Northern Uganda and their participation in that country's annual national music and dance competition. Five thousand kids competed and most of them make it onto the screen -– a lively parade of voices, costumes, folk music, and dance. Directed for the non-profit company Shine Global by the American team of Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine (105 min., 2007).
