Once a brilliant comic book by Mark Millar that deconstructed the super-villain, with Hollywood’s help Wanted has become an explosive comic-book movie starring James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie and centering on assassins who also make high-thread-count sheets. Seriously. Despite how far the adaptation has drifted from the source material, Wanted somehow retains most of Millar’s humor and social commentary via McAvoy as Wesley, a cubicle slave who finds out he’s the son of the world’s greatest assassin the same day his father is assassinated himself. Gibson must overcome his profound wussiness and learn how to kick ass to get vengeance while uncovering the secrets of the weavers-turned-assassins guild he’s joined. However silly it sounds, it looks cool and things go boom. Isn’t that enough these days? (110 min.).
