Wanda Jackson

When: Tue., April 17, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $29.50

Wanda Jackson may very well be the coolest 74-year-old in the universe: She's homies with Jack White, she's still regularly touring (most recently with none other than Adele), she rocks a fringed jacket as well as or better than any hipster. And she's also, remarkably, still on her game musically: While the aptly titled The Party Ain't Over, which was released last year and produced by White, could've easily been yet another transparently money-grubbing rehash of the old stuff by a singer past her prime, it was anything but -- sonically adventurous and fierce as ever, a triumphant return to Jackson's earliest days as the undisputed Queen of Rockabilly, when she was dating Elvis and scoring hit singles while still in high school. She's said to be a spitfire live, too -- catch her with Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside at The Regency Ballroom (1300 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco) on Tuesday, Apr. 17, and don't feel bad if you're suddenly overcome by the knowledge that she's infinitely hipper than you. 8 p.m., $27-$40.
