Davis Guggenheim explains why American public education is a mess. The writer-director of An Inconvenient Truth employs famous talking heads like Bill Gates, Washington DC schools chief Michelle Rhee, and education activist Geoffrey Canada to spill the beans about teachers’ unions (they’re a major part of the problem), “dropout factories,” charter schools, and other sins against children, then looks at alternatives. This warm-hearted documentary is almost as good as Bob Bowdon’s The Cartel. (102 min.)
