Voices in Peace VII: Winter Stillness

When: Sun., Dec. 2, 7 p.m. 2007
Price: $20, students/seniors $15, under 12 free

December offers multiple opportunities for community-based ensembles to shine. While the Oakland East Bay Symphony breaks bread in a mostly traditional manner this Sunday afternoon, the Voci Women's Vocal Ensemble one-ups them that evening with another adventurous "Voices in Peace" holiday concert. This year's installment, "Winter Stillness," featuring guest artist William Winant on marimba, includes Persichetti's rarely heard Winter Cantata, Judith Weir's "Little Tree," and selections from works by Joan Szymko and Ron Nelson. Music by Elgar, Holst, Debussy, Barber, Bernstein, and others also makes an appearance. Sunday, Dec. 2 at LakeMerritt United MethodistChurch. (Repeats December 8 in Berkeley at St. Mary Magdalen).7 p.m. $15-20.VociSings.com or 510-531-8714.
