Godfrey Reggio, wizard of the socially conscious Koyaanisqatsi documentaries, reaches back and delivers the best of the series – a black-and-white montage of only 74 camera shots, mostly of human physiognomies but also, thrillingly, the face of a female gorilla named Triska. Once again, a magnificent music score by Philip Glass sets the scene, and also once again, the subject is the collision of human beings and the rest of life on planet Earth, a struggle that Earth seems to be losing. Visitors calms the frantic rush of Reggio’s previous docs and begs us to stop for a few minutes to soak up the meaning beneath the surface. Gladly. Written and directed by Reggio. (87 min.).
