Re: “The East Bay's Changing Demographics

Service workers, whom we depend on to work our restaurants and cafes; custodians for businesses, clerks for grocery and retail stores, etc etc cannot afford to live then what happens? Are people prepared to lose these businesses because they cannot keep workers on $13/hour? And we haven't even started talking about how teachers are struggling to live here. Meanwhile, according to Mr Montague, everyone who can't afford to live here should move. I assume Mr. Montague is 100% self-sufficient...or just can't see beyond his privileged status.

Re: “So, You Think Housing in the East Bay Is Expensive and Scarce?

"Noisy people" ? ...'whose household income is at or below 20 to 60 percent of the area median income?'
Just say what you mean, dude. You don't wanna live next to poor people.

Re: “Say So Long to the Sit-Down Restaurant

The problem is HIGH commercial rents, not paying people a decent wage. Stop demonizing those that serve you food and coffee. If you like going out to eat, then the people serving you should be able to afford to live in the same area they work in. Disagree? Then always cook your own damn food.

Deliveries and to-go have jumped in popularity because:

a) People don't want to tip for service in a restaurant--and they often do not tip delivery drivers (multiple sources in the industry have told me this)

b) The Bay Area is filled with people who want convenience and can pay for it (except for the above-mentioned lack of paying tips)

c) Finding experienced restaurant staff. must be difficult considering that the average rent for a one bedroom in Oakland is $2000. Even a room can cost $1000.

The irony is that serve yourself places charge just as much as regular restaurants, but expect you to order and pick up food, and bus your own table...while still expecting a tip.

Re: “Fans Exploring Legal Options to Keep Raiders in Oakland

Who cares about corporate sports? What a sham for cities. More $$ pouring into millionaires pockets while clueless fans whoop it up for "their" team. If it truly is YOUR team, then you'll support them when they move to Vegas. American tribalism at its finest.

As for "despising" East Bay NIMBYs and anti-stadium activists--how about we build sports stadiums next to where you live? Yeah, thought so...

Re: “United Nations Expert Describes Oakland and California's Homeless Crisis as 'Cruel'

This is a social crisis and people like "Bay Area Native" suggesting people with low paying jobs should just move somewhere cheaper isn't helping. This is called "I got mine, f*ck the rest." I assume "Bay Area Native" doesn't frequent such places as bars, cafes, grocery stores, retail stores, restaurants, etc whose employees mostly rely on minimum wage and tips. Should low wage workers all be bussed in from Alabama to work in SF?

Re: “Oakland City Council Should Censure Desley Brooks

Oh lordy...gotta put that pretentious PhD after your name so it sounds like you know what you're talking about...but you don't.

Re: “Oakland Police Chief Lacked Authority to Make Arrests and Enforce Laws for First Ten Months on the Job

No one wants to see Oakland burn. That's why there are articles such as these to point out the bumbling moves the Mayor's office continuously makes.
First Oakland had no police chief for several months and then when we do she can't even enforce any laws! What a joke.
