Comedy, Drama, Romance
Bored with England, Woody Allen turns his attention to Spain, where reigning Allen leading lady Scarlet Johansson — as Cristina, the opportunistic half of the title duo with Rebecca Hall’s Vicky — gets her Latin lover on with hunky Spanish artist Javier Bardem and his fiery (what else?) former flame Penelope Cruz, another artist. Coffee table film fans will congratulate Allen for the change of scenery (Barcelona, Oviedo, Avilés) but this weak romantic comedy is notable mostly for its high-priced cast, among whom none measures up to Hall’s Vicky. We can hear Allen’s voice in her complaints. Costarring Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, and voiceover narrator Christopher Evan Welch (96 min.).
