Vegan Pop-Up at Encuentro

When: Fri., Jan. 12, 6 & 8:20 p.m. and Sat., Jan. 13, 6 & 8 p.m. 2018
It’s Oakland Restaurant Week, which means there are special deals and multi-course meals all over the region. Unless you’re heading to Millennium, though, vegans are largely left out of the fun. Coincidentally, Encuentro is popping up for two nights this week in its Jack London Square space, and the menu is entirely vegan. If you’re confused right now, that’s because vegetarian wine bar Encuentro did indeed shut down last year, but chef Lacey Sher has kept the space and continues to hold pop-ups each month. She always keeps the menu a secret, but you can expect four courses plus some extra bites for $45. Sher can also prep for gluten-free eaters and those with severe dietary restrictions with advance notice. And even if you’re not vegan, a meal highlighting organic, local, and seasonal vegetables may be exactly what you need to start 2018 off right.
