World Library of Folk and Primitive Music: India

As for the India disc, Rounder is reissuing a series presented by Alan Lomax on Columbia in the '50s and '60s, though exactly what Lomax had to do with the record under consideration is unclear. This is an important collection that focuses not so much on the classical or village folk traditions as on different kinds of music played by nonclassical professionals. Recorded by Alain Danielou in the '50s, this anthology covers a vast range of instrumental and vocal music and is strongly recommended to lovers of the classical styles who want to get a larger sense of India's musical traditions.
