Drama, Suspense/Thriller
Tom Cruise is miscast as Claus von Stauffenberg, the WWII German army officer whose abortive attempt to assassinate dictator Adolf Hitler gets the full, unblinking historical docudrama treatment from director Bryan Singer. Cruise should have played Hitler, natch. Zero suspense but much gallant military posing by Cruise, stuck like a cockroach in bread dough alongside Kenneth Branagh, Tom Wilkinson, Terence Stamp, and Bill Nighy in Christopher McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander’s routine screenplay. Bombs away (123 min.).
