For some of us, the appreciation of a horror/fantasy film is directly proportionate to the professional skill of the production. The slicker and more polished the production values, the better. Conversely, homemade/handheld/YouTube/amateurish flotsam à la Blair Witch, Baghead, and this tiresome turkey seldom provoke anything but weary derision. They’re typically lazy, sloppy, self-indulgent projects with bad writing. A team of cloddish burglars breaks into an old dark house and episodically encounters weirdness, directed in turn by one of six guest filmmakers. We’ve liked Ti West’s work in the past (The Innkeepers, The House of the Devil), but were unable to pick it out in this weak anthology. With Calvin Reeder and Adam Wingard. (115 min.)
