Victoria Kolakowski appears to have won the race for Alameda County Superior Court judge over John Creighton, according to updated results. Kolakowski leads Creighton 50.76 to 48.26, a difference of 7,392 votes. The updated results, posted Tuesday evening, include about 90,000 85,000 ballots counted over the past several days from around the county. As a result, Kolakowski's lead appears to be too large for Creighton to overcome, and means that she likley will become the first transgendered superior court judge in the nation's history.
Update 11:55 a.m.: "I'm deeply honored to have this opportunity to serve the people of Alameda County," Kolakowski said, during a phone interview this morning. "It's been a very long, tough election and I truly believe that the voters of Alameda County weighed our qualifications."
