The Txlips

“We turning up … Black women in music, just breaking down every barrier that we can find,” says Monique Williams, drummer for Atlanta-based band the Txlips in a YouTube promo video for her group. The four-piece band is certainly breaking stereotypes, as it pulls from influences like The Breeders and Nirvana and adds an intergalactic vibe with rousing keyboards while rocking out hard. The group started last year when guitarist Gabriella Logan was invited to play on a video by Crime Boss rapper Diamond. She took the gig and invited Williams to play drums. Logan had such a good experience that she invited two other women to help them start a band, which became 2 Lips, later changed to Txlips. Logan still plays in Diamond’s backing band (Gurl Code), but the priority nowadays is Txlips, which will hopefully attract a bunch of new fans on this tour.
