For fans of the Underworld franchise, this third installment jumps back in time to the medieval war between the Death Dealers (vampires) and their former slaves, the Lycans (werewolves). Seems master vamp Viktor (Billy Nighy) is responsible for creating the werewolf through crossbreeding with humans, since the Lycans used to be all wolf all the time. Lucien (Michael Sheen) is the first of the new breed, and, like Moses, must set his people free with a lot of blood spilling and wire-supported acrobatics. Watching two great actors reduce themselves to this for a paycheck should be embarrassing, but instead it turns out to be a sugary sweet, unexpectedly fun alternative to the awards-season movies generally being talked about at the moment (93 min.).
