UC Just Doesn't Get It, Example No. 427

As student fees skyrocket and UC employees throughout California brace for layoffs and pay cuts, the governing Board of Regents has decided to award pay raises and lucrative financial perks to top executives, according to the Chronicle. UC officials, who have had to deal with several pay scandals in recent years, defend the perks, arguing that high-paid officials deserve the extra money because they've taken on more job responsibilities. But rank-and-file university employees correctly note that lower-paid workers throughout the UC system now have extra duties because of the current budget crisis and they're taking pay cuts - not getting raises.
