Ty Segall

When: Thu., Sept. 5, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $18, $20
Ty Segall is a ceaselessly productive rocker who called San Francisco home until very recently. Now based in Los Angeles, he has written and performed in an array of lineups (including the Ty Segall Band, Ty Segall with White Fence, Fuzz, and as a solo artist) and styles (searing garage-punk, thrashing hardcore, jam-heavy psych-rock), sometimes releasing as many as three albums in a year. This week at The New Parish (579 18th St., Oakland), he’ll be performing songs off his new (and first) acoustic album, Sleeper, with the Sleeper Band. Gone are the loud, heavy songs; Sleeper is stripped-down and emotional — even folksy at times — but no less captivating than Segall’s prior material. He said his performance of these songs “meets halfway between what we’ve always done live and what the record is.” Other local vintage-sounding solo artists will open the show: Mike Donovan of Sic Alps, who is releasing his first solo album later this year; Jessica Pratt, a 1960s-sounding intimate folk singer; and David Novick, an experimental folk artist
