Twelfth Night

When: Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. and Sun., April 5, 5 p.m. Continues through April 11 2009
Price: $8-$10

Known for mounting 24-hour performances and one-act plays by yet-undiscovered playwrights, Oakland's Round Belly Theatre Company is one of the most imaginative artist collectives to emerge in recent years. This month, it staged a jazzy 1940s version of Twelfth Night, Shakespeare's beloved comedy about cross-dressing and mistaken identity. For this production, Round Belly actors brought the infectious heroine Viola and foppish steward Malvolio into bebop-era New York. On Saturday, Apr. 11, the company closes its two-week run at Berkeley's Subterranean Arthouse(2179 Bancroft Way). It's the first full-length play to be staged at this new interdisciplinary arts space. 8 pm., $8-$10. For info, e-mail roundbellytheatre@gmail.com
