No-frills South Korean heart-tugger has two unwanted little girls, dropped off at their stingy, drunken aunt’s home by their preoccupied mother, fending for themselves by skipping school and selling roasted grasshoppers, all the while saving coins for their mother’s return. If the story — by writer-director Kim So-yong — weren’t so fable-like we’d have to call it Korean Neo-Realism. Almost like watching a documentary, reinforced by the fact that the kids are played by real-life sisters, Kim Hee-yeon and Kim Song-hee. Their plight is moving despite, or maybe because of, the slow, childlike pace (89 min.).
