Re: “Comal Next Door Offers Solid Taqueria Fare in Downtown Berkeley

Cancun, an organic Mexican restaurant in downtown Berkeley, has much better burritos and taquitos than Comal Next Door. Tacos Sinaloa is not downtown, it is over on Telegraph. I'm done with burritos so I enjoy Sinaloa's $2 taquitos: sublime. Comal's sit down service restaurant is good. I enjoyed checking it out but it is too frou frou for me, esp with Cancun and Sinaloa nearby.

Re: “OUSD Backs Down After Charter School Threatens Lawsuit

Aspire is behaving in grossly aggressive legal positioning. OUSD, it could be said, has a duty to the citizens of Oakland to protect themselves. Selling land that is supposed to be sold for affordable housing to a charter school competitor of OUSD and then demanding the OUSD and their entire staff have no right to voice their opinions as citizens is an overly broad grab for power. It is Trumpian in its outrageousness!

Re: “PAC Money Invades 15th District Assembly Race

Come on, EastBayExpress, have some integrity. Near the end of this kiss-up-to-money piece (Buffy's money bribers) you actually state she is the least in favor of charter schools of all candidates. Have you actually interviewed Jovanka Beckles or even Dan Kalb? This is ot journalism, it is advertising. Who bought this article?

Re: “PAC Money Invades 15th District Assembly Race

Buffy's quotes in this article prove she doesn't know much about local issues/needs. Scott Weiner, Nancy Skinner and other politicians she references are characterized by Buffers as progressive but they are NOT progressives at all. SAying one is a progressive does not make one a progressive, Buffy.

Re: “Opinion: Why Building Housing Near Mass Transit Promotes Collectivism

The law that destroys any local input on development and prioritizes building housing near public transit shields communities such as those in Marin County who did not invest in good public transit or lightrail. Developers can't invade Marin and ignore local input because Marin has not invested in public transit. This legislation punishes forward thinking communities that built BART stations in their communities and light rail in their communities. And, I am sure, there are many swaths of CA protected from this bill that strips local input from development already overbuilt communities and shields rich enclaves from development.

And what about the policy of no anonymous posts? Who is Nick W and who is FitzWood?

Re: “Vote Kalb or Wicks for Assembly District 15

it is appalling that East Bay Express has endorsed the two insider Dems running for this office. Neither Wicks nor Kalb can be considered progressives and making two endorsements is appalling because East Bay Express seems to hope to control the primary. Wicks should get to run for office just because she once worked for Obama and she is rich. And Dan Kalb -- I was astonished to hear him speak at the Berkeley Progressive endorsement meeting, never having heard of him. Man he was boring. And could he, um, and Wicks, um, get any whiter? And by white I mean privileged corporate-loving Dem insiders.

Dan Kalb was the most boring candidate at the Berkeley Progressive ASsociation's endorsement meeting. He got only a few votes but at least he showed up. Wicks couldn't be bothered to show up. And Jovanka won the BPA endorsement, the Berkeley Citizen Action endorsement and the Berkeley Tenants' Union endorsement.

Folks, vote for Jovanka Beckles in the primary and don't vote for these classically insider Dems.

Tony Thurmond, who won this assembly seat in 2014, defeated Elizabeth Echols, who had also worked for Obama. When she ran for SA15, she was running Google's political arm, sat on the CA Dem Party Steering Committee and had all the local toads like Tommy Bates' endorsement. . . Tony beat rich girl, Obama administration Echols and Ms. Beckles can beat these corporate insider elitists.

This is not a Berkeley seat and this assembly district does not include much of Oakland. People in Berkeley tend to think it is 'their' seat. I know because I canvassed every Sat and Sun from the primary through the election Tony won in 2014. No one in Berkeley or Oakland had heard of Tony. But, like Beckles, Tony was very well known and highly regarded in Contra Costa County because of his history doing awesome work in elected offices up in CCC. Beckles can win up in CCC and I bet Wicks and Kalb can't.

Re: “District Attorney Candidate Accused of Exploitation

Looks like East Bay Express has a grudge going against Price, eh? I note that this article does not present much in the way of facts, just the smears of Abuslin, who is not my idea of an entirely reliable source.
