At this upscale Italian restaurant located in an Alameda shopping center, chef Giuseppe Naccarelli makes his rounds through the dining room, and out onto the covered outdoor patio, every half-hour or so, to greet guests with a hearty “buona sera.” It’s not just the hospitality, but also the quality of the food, that’s better (albeit pricier) than what you’d expect to find in a suburban shopping plaza. The menu focuses on dishes that are characteristic of Naccarelli’s native Abruzzo region, and some of the best items are the appetizers — try the baccala (salt cod) and roasted peppers served atop cubes of crispy-oozy fried polenta, or the segments of grilled octopus tossed with sliced fennel and lemon juice. The handmade cocoa-powder-infused chitarrine with a savory rabbit ragu is the highlight of the pasta list, and meat-and-potato types will appreciate the daily selection of rotisserie meats cooked over a wood fire: Bacon-wrapped rabbit, anyone?
