Bar food and health food don’t usually belong in the same sentence. But Town Square Eats, the newly opened eatery located within Crooked City, aims to create health-conscious bar food, including plenty of vegan and gluten-free options, without sacrificing flavor. The eatery is a collaboration between the folks behind Perle Wine Bar and Great China. Sandwiches are solid, from the jive turkey sandwich with crisp chicken skin to the muffaletta that replicates the ones you’d find at a New Orleans deli. The onion dip Impossible Burger and corned beets sandwich are also good options for vegans and carnivores alike. Salads are outstanding, particularly the Chicken Lover, which utilizes Sichuan peppercorns for fragrant, floral heat. Pizza is focaccia-style and served by the slice. Bar snacks like pretzels with cider cheese dip and truffle chips topped with caviar are tasty but pricy. Get the sweet potato pie with lingonberry compote for dessert.
