Action, Comedy
Something from the comical corner of the “Recession Special” factory. In order to extract justice from a Bernie-Madoff-style Wall Street investment swindler (Alan Alda, the picture of smug corruption), the defrauded employees of the New York City condo tower where the swindler lives – Ben Stiller, Casey Affleck, Gabourey Sidibe (of (Precious, Michael Peña – join forces with a two-bit hustler named Slide (Eddie Murphy at his bumptious best) to boost the rich crook’s stash. It's got obvious riffs lifted from Big Deal on Madonna Street and also Ferris Bueller’s Day Off — appropriate, because Matthew Broderick shows up as a pathetic laid-off financial exec — and is good for one or two genuine laughs. Directed routinely by Brett Ratner and costarring Téa Leoni and Judd Hirsch (104 min.)
