The twin brothers work in a rock quarry alongside their hopelessly alcoholic father, but the boys nurse baseball aspirations and hopes for the future. Ed Harris hits one out of the park in the role of the father, in this ingratiatingly modest semi-autobiographical drama by the writing-producing-directing team of Logan and Noah Miller, who essentially play themselves. Brad Dourif is a bit over the top as a goofy uncle, but Robert Forster (as the friendly local sheriff) and Ishiah Benben (as the love interest of one of the twins) lend a note of hominess, as does the gorgeous western Marin County scenery, lensed by Ricardo Jacques Gale. On the sweet side of bittersweet, but will not rot your teeth (108 min.).
