Re: “A Recap of East Bay Express Endorsements

Height Limits on Residential Buildings in downtown Berkeley and southside bad idea

The reason: Berkeley, like every city in the bay area, has a housing deficit.
As an example, consider the new Trader Joe building on University and MLK:
There are 94 employees in that store creating a demand for 94x4=376 units of
housing (I am assuming an average family of 2 wage earners, 2 children and
2 grandparents on each side, thus 2 jobs create 8 units of housing).
There are 148 units of housing, thus the project creates a net housing deficit.

However, had the Trader Joe building been allowed to be 40 Stories high, it
would have generated 1480 units of housing, a quantity larger than the demand
it created from the commercial operations, and started to cut into the City of
Berkeley housing deficit.

A similar analysis would reveal that the Brower Center at the corner of Allston
and Oxford added to the housing deficit: Number of housing units 17 stories high
(where was the ASUC, when they should be looking after the interests of
students??)

The University of California should have all their steel framed buildings exceed 17 stories,
have several departments share the highrise and build steel framed high rise apartment
buildings on campus.

We need a state law that forces every city to be balanced and that forces every
city to house its workers and students (number of housing units > (4 * number
of jobs) + number of university students), the law should not allow any
University or college to expand without supplying the additional housing
required by the expansion. Cities with housing deficits should not be allowed
to have hight limits on residential apartment buildings.

The unbalance and lack of housing in the various Bay Area cities has
disastrous consequences on the environment and on the health of the workers
and the students in the Bay Area. For example, so many people spend so much
time commuting, that they don't have time to exercise, we are starting to see
an epidemic of type 2 diabetes as a consequence.

Stairs should be open to the public:
-------------------------------------

There should be a very simple law: if you can go between 2 floors using the
elevator, you should have the option of using the stairs. There should be a
heavy fine (> $10000/day indexed to inflation) for buildings that close their
stairs.

Better Approach to affordable housing:
---------------------------------

1-outlaw hosing deficits at the state level and force every city to be balanced as described above.
2-give rent stamps to help low income people.

Students, Workers, true progressives and environmentalists should take notice
that the pseudo-progressive and pseudo-environmentalist candidates Jesse
Arreguin, Kriss Worthington and Stewart Jones are opposed to high rise
apartment buildings and think there is a housing glut in Berkeley.

Not every person who puts on the green label is a true progressive and
environmentalist. For example, several years ago, the pseudo-environmentalist
Donna Spring voted against a car-free housing development in downtown Berkeley,
because it did not have parking. Also true progressives and environmentalists
should be concerned about overpopulation and demand and end to tax deductions
fo having children. It should be the reverse, the more children people have,
the more taxes they should pay.

The silence of the Berkeley NIMBYs about the new Caldecott Tunnel is deafening.

Re: “A Recap of East Bay Express Endorsements

marijuana initiative (proposition 19) bad idea in its current form:
The 1st problem with proposition 19 is 2nd hand smoke
I support the right of all adult mature people over the age 27 in the society to put any chemical in their bodies.
I don't recognize the right of anybody to put chemicals into my body or in the air I am about to breathe, such as by smoking or holding a burning tobacco or marijuana cigarette.

The key question is if I am walking in the public domain who decides what chemicals touch my lungs and sinuses?
Should I or the person p0 smoking or holding a burning cigarette make the decision ?
I think I and NOT p0 should make the decision.
I have never consented to allow the chemicals from burning cigarettes touch my lungs and sinuses.

I support banning smoking on sidewalks, malls, parks and other places. I and others have NEVER consented to have our lungs and sinuses raped and molested by cigarettes and marijuana smokers. I and other victims of lungs and sinuses rape and molestion should be able to sue offender for $10e6 indexed to inflation / incident.
Consumption of tobacco and marijuana products should be limited to the non-smoking route.

The 2nd problem with proposition 19 is it assumes the brain matures at 21, but cognitive scientists have determined that the brain does not mature until the age of 27. The appropriate age should be determined after consulting with cognitive scientists, who have been doing the funtional MRIs and studying the structure of the brain.

I would love cognitive scientists to comment about the appropriate age and take a position on proposition 19.

Instead of proposition 19, I propose the following:

Support full Body Sovereignty for each adult mature person over the age of 27
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let p0 be any adult mature person over the age of 27.
Every adult mature person in the society p0 should have full Sovereignty over p0.
only p0 should have full Sovereignty over p0,
p0 should have full Sovereignty only over p0.
If p1 violates p0's full Sovereignty over p0, po has the right to sue p1 for large monetary damages (> 10e6 indexed to inflation)
(cognitive science has determined 27 the age at which most people's brains mature)

Implications:
Let p0 and p1 be any 2 distinct mature adult persons in the society
If p0 and p1 want to marry/have sex, that is the business of p0 and p1 only
and the business of nobody else,
p0 should have the right to put any chemical/drug in p0's body witout FDA
approval.
p0 should have no right to put any chemical/drug in p1's body without p1's
consent, where p1 is any other member of the society.

p0 has no right to hold a burning cigarette on the sidewalk as there are other
pedestrians who have never consented to allow the chemicals touch their lungs
and sinuses.

I support banning smoking on sidewalks, malls, parks and other places. I and
others have NEVER consented to have our lungs and sinuses raped and molested by
cigarettes and marijuana smokers.

Victims of lungs and sinuses rape and molestation should be able to sue offender
for $10e6 indexed to inflation / incident.
Smokers should use a device like a
Smokeless cannabis delivery device efficient and less toxic

Also, marijuana users should be aware of the following:

researchers in Canada are reporting that smoking marijuana, like smoking
tobacco, has toxic effects on cells Marijuana smoke caused significantly more
damage to cells and DNA than tobacco smoke, the researchers note. However,
tobacco smoke caused chromosome damage while marijuana did not
http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/200…

Experiments with rodents and humans have shown that cannabinoids, the active
ingredients of marijuana, can actually amplify and prolong pain rather than
damping it down

I support people's rights to sovereignty over their bodies and my own right to
sovereignty over my body.

I support a comprehensive policy, that requires children by the the age of 12 to have basic knowledge about:
1-organic chemistry
2-chemistry of the various neurotransmitters
3-how drugs modulate activity of various neurotransmitters
4-how the brain is structured (reptilian part, frontal lobe, pleasure and pain centers, etc..)
5-how the various brain structures work
6-important findings in cognitive science, including the famous experiment of Filip Zimbardo and how most people follow the herd just for the sake of group acceptance.

Suppression of voluntary ethanol consumption in rats by gamma-butyrolactone
GBL, injected intraperitoneally at the dose of 200 mg/kg, twice daily for 3 consecutive days, decreased ethanol intake by about 80% on the days of treatment, but did not reduce total fluid intake. Ethanol intake remained significantly reduced up to the 5th day following cessation of GBL
