Toph One Benefit and Fundraiser

When: Sun., Jan. 22, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $10-$20

Beloved San Francisco DJ, event producer, cyclist, AIDS/LifeCycle activist, and sometime music critic Toph One was recently the victim of a hit-and-run accident, which put him in the ICU, San Francisco Bay Guardian and SF Appeal reported. Although recent Facebook updates say he's improved, Toph still faces a long, grueling recovery and mounting medical bills. So members of the local DJ community joined arms to help. Several of Toph's friends, including Billy Jam, Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist, DJ Pause, Sake One, Rolo 1-3, Myk One, Rascue, J-Boogie, JahYzer, Irie Dole, Maneesh the Twister, Mr. E, and DJ Best will spin at a special fundraiser this Sunday, Jan. 22. That's a veritable A-list cast from the local hip-hop and reggae scenes, and you seldom see them all gathered together in a single room -- let alone for such a noble cause. The event, which also features open turntables for anyone to spin, happens at SOM-Bar (2925 16th St., San Francisco). 8 p.m., $10-$20 suggested donation; 100 percent of door proceeds and half the bar will go directly to Toph.
