Tom Barbash

When: Wed., May 28, 7 p.m. 2014
Last year, Stay Up With Me, the first short story collection by Marin’s Tom Barbash, took the lit world by concerted, if unexpected, storm: The New York Times called the collection “addictive” and its author a “true craftsman,” the ever-articulate Entertainment Weekly went with “very good,” and The Rumpus even went so far as to call Barbash himself handsome. All the praise was, of course, entirely well deserved, as this is, indeed, the kind of book you want to stay up with, each of its stories a little raisin of tragedy and chaos and human existence writ tiny and truthful. The book is now in paperback, and Barbash is back in the East Bay for a book tour that might as well be a victory lap; catch him at A Great Good Place for Books (6120 La Salle Ave., Oakland) this week.
