How exactly is building new housing at JLS "compromising" the waterfront? We need to protect the historic surface parking lots? There are lots of great areas for housing development in Oakland and those surface lots in JLS are two of them.

Geography is more to blame than any individual companies or landlords. You can't change the fact that West Oakland is a 10 minute BART ride from downtown SF

It's hard to know where to start with your comment Mary. This is the California Environmental Quality Act - if you think government should mandate more parking for new developments, maybe you should write a new California Mandated Parking Act. Clearly, allowing lawsuits about insufficient parking is not about protecting the environment.

In any case, there are plenty of buildings with off street parking; if you want that, you can live in one of those buildings. Don't force poor people and people without cars to subsidize those who expect to own a car. You "burden" your neighbors and society by forcing them to pay for your parking spot whether they want to or not.

And Manhattan is great. You may not like it, but you shouldn't force your anti-Manhattan ideals on Oakland residents who want tall buildings, walkable neighborhoods, good transit and a broad tax base. Government should not be used to force our city to remain underpopulated and auto-centric.

The purpose of the BART Airport connector is a quick and seamless connection to the airport, not economic development along Hegenberger. Whether or not that was a good use of $440 million is up for debate, but any stops to slow it down makes it less useful and more a waste of money when compared to the current bus service. Agreed with Joe on everything else though.
