Thrillville's Farewell Bay Area Show

When: Thu., April 3, 9:15 p.m. 2014
Price: $8
Seventeen years ago, Will “the Thrill” Viharo started hosting screenings of classic grindhouse movies accompanied by burlesque acts at the Parkway Speakeasy as a way to promote his novel Love Stories Are Too Violent For Me. Over the years, the cult movie night and cabaret show, known as Thrillville, grew in popularity. When it moved to The New Parkway in 2012, Thrillville featured guest hosts, although Viharo continued to select the movies. Now, Viharo is moving to Seattle to focus on his writing career, but before he does, he and his wife, Monica Cortes Viharo (aka “The Tiki Goddess”), will host the final Thrillville at The New Parkway Theater (474 24th St., Oakland) on Thursday. The couple will screen one of Viharo’s favorites, the 1957 film noir Sweet Smell of Success, and hand out prizes during a trivia contest. Don’t miss your last chance to party with the self-described “B-movie lounge lizard.”
