Re: “Union Busting at the Oakland Tribune?

Is this really union busting? The employees will be able to vote on whether or not to keep the union -- and they will use a secret ballot. You conveniently left that out of your story. It's incorrect when you say "Media News likely will attempt to decertify the union ... " because the employer can't do that. Here's how it really works -- Under NRLB rules, 30 percent of the employees in a bargaining unit must sign a petition asking for a decertification election. Then an election is held. A simple majority wins. Letting people vote isn't union busting -- it gives everyone a chance to decide if they want to continue with union representation or not. Why should the union be afraid of a vote? If the Guild is doing a good job, it should win in a landslide, right? So why fight a vote?
