Re: “Libraries on the Brink

This is a tragic day for me as a lifetime resident of Oakland. I make use of the West Oakland library, the African American Museum and Library, Melrose, and Eastmont. Melrose nurtured my passion for reading and learning as a child, and West Oakland staff were invaluable in helping me with the research to start my catering business. It breaks my heart that with all the celebs who come from the Town, that no one is stepping up to halt this travesty. What of our youth who are in dire need of someplace safe to go and do homework, internet research, and attend workshops? What of our residents who need meeting rooms, quiet reading space, and a host of other services? Something drastic needs to be done to save our libraries, and I for one will be racking my brain to come up with a viable solution. Why aren't people up in arms about this?? Can anyone suggest solutions??
