The will to chill just won’t subside. Electronic music gets more and more skittish in some camps, while other producers discover uncharted depths of bass — and yet, the mellowest, most soothing assemblages of beats and samples continue to resonate with big audiences. Enter Thievery Corporation, a DJ collective that was spawned in late-1990s Washington, DC and is performing at The Fox Theater (1807 Telegraph Ave., Oakland) Thursday. The group mixes tuneful, dulcet guest vocals and international rhythms — especially bossa nova — into down-tempo, tranquil tracks that populate a long and rather unwavering discography. On the group’s latest, Saudade, the influence of traditional South American music is especially present, though it continues a mood established back on 1997’s Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi — relaxed and proudly palliative. Notably, Thievery Corporation has been outspoken on a number of human rights issues. If it considers its music a respite to global horrors, its records may be unflappably mellow for a long time to come.
