Thee Oh Sees

When: Sat., Jan. 12, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $16

Like walking across the Golden Gate Bridge or visiting Alcatraz Island, seeing Thee Oh Sees perform should be something every rock fan in the Bay does at least once. John Dwyer and his revolving door of band members cut their teeth playing house parties in the Mission back in the late Nineties, way before Pitchfork got wind of the garage rock scene. Dwyer has since been crowned the king of the genre, and while Thee Oh Sees retains some of its raucous, Sixties sound, the band has constantly reinvented itself. On any given Thee Oh Sees album, you'll hear psych-rock, noise, and even punk. Last year's psychedelic-heavy Putrifiers II made many critics' top ten lists, and people are still talking about the band's shows at SXSW last year. Thee Oh Sees headlines two nights at The Independent (628 Divisadero St., San Francisco) on Friday, Jan. 11, and Saturday, Jan. 12, both with former Bare Wires frontman Matthew Melton's new project, Warm Soda, plus Sic Alps on Friday and The Mallard on Saturday. 9 p.m., $16.
